Carlos originally created the journals with a focus on helping adults track their daily mental, physical, and emotional challenges. However, in late 2022, a close friend and Head of School saw the journals and recognized their potential as a tool for her students and teachers. She believed they could be invaluable in addressing the emotional and mental needs of students and staff in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This encounter led Carlos to put the launch of the journals to the general public on hold, instead adapting his program for use in schools across the country. In 2022, the Extreme Focus Journal program was introduced to four schools across Metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. By the end of its second year in 2023, the program had expanded to five states—Georgia, Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee, and Alabama—and was being used in 40 schools. The program continues to grow to this day.

After three years of development and success in the educational sector, Carlos has decided to release the journals to the broader audience they were initially designed for—adults.

MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MESSAGE

Carlos Camryn is a Memphis, Tennessee native. He is a Master Certified Life Coach, Motivational Speaker, Author, and a graduate of the University of Mississippi and a mogul. However, despite his many successes, Carlos has struggled internally. He has fought depression, fear, doubt, and poor self-image despite living a seemingly perfect life to the outside world.

Throughout his adolescence and young adulthood, he often believed his life would never amount to anything and no matter how much he tried, he would never live up to societal rules of a “good man.” Carlos grew up in an abusive household and faced many challenges during his formative and pivotal years. Although there was a consistent uphill battle, he persevered and learned to survive, thrive, and excel.

Not only did Carlos experience difficulties in his own home, he also witnessed firsthand the plight of young men and women in his age group become victims of violence and drugs. With that backdrop, he dedicated himself to not being a statistic, and he used his academic and athletic skills to move beyond his circumstances. Carlos was mentored and supported by his basketball coach, Jerry Johnson, who showed him “tough love” and played a father figure to him. He challenged and inspired Carlos to unearth his inner greatness, channel his competitive nature, and understand that being scared or quitting were not options – ever.

Having a strong mentor and coach, Carlos became an all-around athlete that excelled in basketball, football, and track, resulting in a full scholarship to play football at the University of Mississippi - “Ole Miss”. After completion of his Bachelor’s Degree at Ole Miss, Carlos was evaluated by the NFL, CFL, Arena 1, and IFL teams including the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then a major setback occurred in the form of injury. Carlos suffered an ACL injury and labrum tear that threatened his athletic dreams. With his resiliency and dedication, Carlos made a full recovery.

However, his goal to become a professional athlete was met with another challenge – family crisis. At one of the most pivotal points in his professional career, Carlos chose family first. After giving up his professional aspirations in football to help his family, the situation eventually resolved itself, but not without leaving Carlos in a place where his childhood trauma was uncovered.

The resolution ultimately magnified the fact that his family didn’t choose him first. Ultimately, Carlos experienced betrayal by the very family he was trying to help. Despite the pain, Carlos persevered. In 2015 Carlos launched a fitness company, Impact Fitness Global Inc. in Atlanta, GA. As a Fitness Empowerment Coach, Carlos has been invaluable to his clients with his encouragement, energy, passion, and commitment to seeing them achieve supreme health in their lives.

Despite these professional successes, Carlos found himself in an unhealthy relationship mirroring the relationship he had with his mother as a child. He suffered a final blow at the start of 2017 when the family issues and relationship came to a head causing him to make a major shift in his life. This blow brought years of masked internal pain and suffering to the surface. He was not able to run or hide, but would be forced to face the toughest opponent/obstacle he would ever meet – himself.

After having to face himself, Carlos decided to go on a 42-day spiritual journey, which stretched to 8 months. He spent hours reading books and listening to videos that talked about spirit, energy, vibration, frequency, conscious and subconscious behavior. Through this time, the most important lesson he learned was the importance of self-awareness or ‘knowing thyself’.

Everyone faces obstacles in life that typically originate from early childhood and become part of subconscious behavior. This subconscious behavior is what greatly impacts how we view the world and more importantly, how we show up in the world. Carlos’ transformation ignited a fire in him to want to help and teach those who want to truly break free from the habits and behaviors that have held them hostage for so long. To see life through their own eyes for the first time is true freedom.

In 2018 Carlos realized that the techniques he used to heal himself from his childhood trauma were actually effective in his sessions as a coach. In an attempt to help people on a larger scale, the Extreme Focus Journal idea was born. In August of 2020, the content was completed and the first printed drafts were made in December of 2020.
